The Founder & His Experience

John Calderon - Agricultural & Water Conservation Advocate

John Calderon has spent much of his life connected to agriculture, ranching, water, and the land. Raised largely in Oklahoma on a cattle ranch, John gained firsthand experience raising beef cattle, maintaining livestock, and understanding the importance of agriculture to America’s food supply.

John holds dual Master’s Degrees in Agriculture and Agricultural Business, with undergraduate studies in Water Engineering. His experience includes designing irrigation systems, conducting soil sampling to evaluate nutrient conditions, and studying water conservation and aquifer systems.

Working independently with Kevin Eversole of Miami, Oklahoma, John is exploring the future of agricultural water conservation and groundwater resources. His Colorado experience has also included work associated with U.S. Forest Service lands, including tending cattle at elevations approaching 11,000 feet and gaining firsthand knowledge of the relationship between livestock, forests, watersheds, and working lands.

Today, through Cattleman’s Creed, John is focused on bringing traditional agricultural knowledge together with emerging soil and water science. His interests include biochar, compost, soil health, irrigation efficiency, aquifer conservation, and finding practical ways to help farmers and ranchers reduce water and input demands while maintaining productive land.

Looking ahead, John hopes to pursue a PhD in Agriculture and continue researching soil, water, and conservation strategies that can strengthen American agriculture for generations to come.

His mission is simple: protect the water, strengthen the soil, support the producer, and leave the land better than we found it.
